Sean’s Marathon Quest Weeks 5 and 6

October 10, 2009

Well my rest and preparation for the take back the night 5k turned out to be a waste of time. We showed up to the race sight dressed and ready and no one. We drove to an alternate start that was used a few years ago and still no one. We drove around the general area looking for a crowd, or a banner, or just a flyer explaining what happened and still nothing. We went to Dekalb Rape Crisis’ office to see if there was information posted and still nothing. We headed to Big Peach Running Company thinking since they were a sponsor they might know and they also knew nothing about it. This race isn’t a fly by night one time operation, it’s been going on for years and usually a big production. I still have no idea what happened and even stranger is why we never saw any other confused would be racers.

I was disappointed not to run in this race so Tracy and I ran an easy 4 miles on our own and contimplated what may have gone wrong with the take back the night run. It was nice running with someone else so I may start running with a group once or twice a week just to stay motivated. The last week I’ve felt kind of lathargic and running has been a little of a chore rather than something I look forward to the night before. I knew this week I’d have to do something to reignite my excitement for running so on Monday I took a long run. I didn’t know how far I’d go but I wanted to do over 10 miles so I went on a run that I thought would be about that and tried to incorporate varying terrains and scenery to keep things interesting. My run ended up being a little over 13 miles

The rest of the week hasn’t been as exciting but has kept me motivated. I did a 5 mile run on wednesday and then a 3 mile run on thursday. This is perfect for me if I can keep up the long runs on Monday and the shorter maintenance runs during the week. I’ve had a little pain in my left hip that I’ve never really felt before. I can’t really figure out a way to stretch it but it only hurts on days I haven’t run hard. When I start running it goes away after the first 10 minutes. I think it actually may be a result of being on my feet all night at work and totally unrelated to running.
