100 years of bicycle component and accessory design

September 30, 2009

0dbThis is a reprint of the data book which was published in Japan in 1983 compiled by Mr. Noguchi, a European bicycle component and accessory enthusiast and the president of Joto Ringyo company. It’s very simply illustrations of bicycles and components. It’s not really a page turner unless you’re really into bicycles and especially the design aspect of them, It’s more of a book you pick up every once in a while and marvel at how advanced early design was or conversely how simply modern design still is. It’s incredible to see these primitive velocipedes turn into modern bikes through the years. More interesting to me is the forgotten or given up on technologies you see evolve for a few years and then disappear. Or even things you saw come out a few years ago and thought were new but were really just an old idea revamped and sent out for another go in this competitive market. You can really see in this book that there’s not much that hasn’t already been attempted when it comes to designing bicycles.
